We kicked off 2012 at The Wedding Co. Show in the historic Carlu ... one of Toronto's finest examples of art moderne architecture designed by Jacques Carlu in 1930 ... such a unique event space!!
Aside from meeting new clients at the show, a really important part of the weekend for us is connecting with the many talented wedding professionals that gather annually at this show. We're so proud to be associated with such a talented pool of wedding vendors and we're excited to work with a bunch of them in the coming months and years!!
For this show, we debuted our long-awaited latest addition ... a one-of-a-kind 10ft tall custom made metal tree we commissioned this past fall! We loaded the tree with nearly 300 stems of tangerine mokara orchids, hanging glass candle-lit lanterns and delicate handcrafted glass butterflies (custom made for us by our glass artisan friend, Connie Paul).

Just imagine exchanging your wedding vows under a couple of these jaw-dropping trees ... indoors or out ... they'd be absolutely magnificent!!!
We designed our *tree* to be extremely versatile ... in addition to a wedding ceremony, we can also use it to create a statement piece in the lobby, atrium, bar or lounge area of your event space ... it can be bare or loaded with foliage, branches or flowers of any colour ... it's also height adjustable!
The tree effectively lowers the ceiling and helps to creates a more intimate space ... much like in nature!

We had been dreaming about our *tree* for quite a while ... we sketched up our idea, brought it to a metal artist friend of ours and he made our vision into reality!
We're so happy with this first one, that we're going to get a few more made ... the possibiities for use are endless!!!

We started designing our space for this show back in September ... before we fully realized just how big the tangerine orange and grey combo would become this year!
We gathered and assembled our ideas ... custom grey felt flower vessel sleeves with inset butterfly detailing, fabric votive sleeves, butterfly tea cups from Anthropologie, antique silverware (found at Paris Market in Savannah, GA), grey-washed barnboard communal table (from The Warehouse in Niagara-on-the-Lake), pinwheel crystal stemware ... it all came together nicely!

Thanks to our book-maker friend Hannelore for the beautiful hand-bound guest book! (pictured above).

Back in the late fall, Catherine Lash of The Wedding Co. sent photographer Geneviève Caron over to the studio to catch Jennifer in her element ... for an article for the premier of The Wedding Co. magazine.
When we showed up at The Carlu to install our display, weren't we surprised to find Jennifer had become the poster-girl for the "Meet the Makers" feature ... is it a little hot in here?!?!

All-in-all, it was a wonderful way to kick off the 2012 wedding season ... we're really looking forward to how this year will unfold!

We just had to share some pics from an intimate wedding we designed for Cailee + Douglas ... we love the deep red, crimson and merlot colours layered on top of black lace and saphire blue of the girl's dresses way too much!!
The wedding ceremony took place in the afternoon at the Rose Garden at Pillar and Post in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Guests gathered later in the Old Library to celebrate with Cailee + Douglas over drinks and a dinner reception!
The flowers we designed with consisted of garden roses, orchids and dahlias ... that's it! What a luscious, bold and textural palette ... so much fun!
Here's Cailee's mesmerizing bridal bouquet ... definitely one of our favourites from this year!

Love, love, love Cailee's *red* wedding dress!!!

The bridesmaids wore lovely sapphire blue dresses ...

For the intimate dinner reception, our wrought iron twiggy trees were all covered in red mokara orchids and basked in the candlelit glow of hanging glass lanterns!

Sarah + Daniel tied the knot in a late afternoon outdoor wedding ceremony on the Terrace at Legends on the Niagara. Cocktails immediately followed the ceremony and later in the evening, guests enjoyed an evening dinner reception with the newlyweds!
Sarah's floral colour palette featured a mix of our Glow and Bliss palettes in shades of yellow, buttercup and cream with accents of peach, blush and salmon particularly evident in the bridesmaid's bouquets and dresses.
We designed using some dazzling yellow garden roses, yellow craspedia, white orchids and hydrangeas, dahlias, delicate cammomile, gloriosa blooms and oodles of gardeny bits such as mint and raspberry foliage from our organic cutting gardens here at the studio!

These custom-built Twiggy lantern 'street lights' made of birch poles looked absolutely awesome with the natural stone and wood elements in the room and on the terrace at Legends!

The wood cut-out Bride + Groom was sourced on Etsy ... bride Sarah sent in a photo which was turned into a sketch and hand-crafted into the cupcake topper!!

We wish Sarah + Daniel a blessed start to their marriage journey ... it was an honour to have had a part in making your big day so special!!

This weekend, Lauren + David were married in Niagara on the Lake ... we were excited to work at two of our favourite venues ... Queen's Landing and St. Mark's Anglican Church.
This little town is so full of interest and charm that it naturally enhances any wedding here ... take, for instance, the 19th century fife and drum corps parade we experienced marching down the centre of Queen St. - where else are you going to experience THAT?!?!
Lauren's colour palette was based on our '
Charm' palette plus white and a touch of darker pink. Very soft, romantic and flow-y. The reception flowers showcased deeper medium pink tones.
We designed primarily with dahlias, pink piano garden roses, pink spray roses and some 'gardeny bits' including delicate fern fronds, astilbe and scented geranium foliage from our studio's organic cutting gardens.
Lauren's bridal bouquet included heavenly-scented gardenias ...

Bride Lauren has a thing for birds ... so we dreamt up a twiggy tree installation for her that featured these cute little birds in nests, white orchids and some of our handmade pottery vessels!
P.S. > We actually rescued these real Robin's nests from our gardens this spring ... you just never know what you'll need a bird's nest for! :) (No robins were harmed ... don't worry!).

Cheers and best wishes to Lauren + David ... it was a pleasure designing the florals for your wedding!

On Saturday night we had the pleasure of designing a 64ft long tablescape for a corporate excursion dinner at Chateau des Charmes Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake ... we had so much fun with this!
We were designing a very "Old World" look for this special dinner ... naturally, we pulled out our cork logs, acacia balls, mason jars with votive candles and some really awesome green swirl vessels. And our Twiggy lanterns were an absolute must to add some ambience to this outdoor event! The linens featured a deep merlot with gold filigree accent and moss napkins.
For the floral colour palette, we designed in deep yellow, orange/gold and moss green using garden roses, oncidium orchids, pin-cushion protea, green hydrangeas, succulents, leucadendron and fresh moss.
Special thanks to Kim and Catherine at Strategic Meetings Solutions for giving us the freedom to flex our creative muscles!
