Okay, we've got a bit of a different post for you this time ... all you wedding purists might want to hang on to your seats! ;)
When we first met with our bride, Ariel, she told us that she didn’t want her wedding to *feel* like a wedding. She said she loved the store Anthropologie! We're big Anthropologie fans and we decided to get involved a little bit more with the staging aspect of her wedding ... the fabrics, pillows and the antiques ... all the lovely, lovely details!
It turns out that we've got this old yellow couch (it generally resides on our deck at home) that was sort of one of the main things that started the whole ball rolling ... that’s really where the idea for all the antiques and vintage details started to come into play. We used a lot of custom pillows and hand-sewn birds in the curly willow trees we created ... complete with actual bird's nests that we rescued from the garden this spring. We also designed a flag garland that uses the same fabric as the napkins (which we had commissioned specifically for the wedding). We also had a local potter create some of the mini white vessels for the flowers. And, of course, canning jars were everywhere with flowers and candles in them!
The flowers were mainly all yellow ... we used garden roses, local dahlias, a lot of herbs from the garden, lavender, lavender foliage, camomile and yarrow ... a lot of very local things that were coming up out of the ground at that time of the year.
We were really excited about designing this wedding because it’s really different than what you’d normally see or expect at a wedding. It was the ‘un-wedding’! The bride and groom were very focused on just creating a comfortable atmosphere for their guests and we're all about that!
Most of these photos were captured by the imaginative team at Nataschia Wielink Photography ... we're so excited to share them with you!

A special shout out to Vineyard Sweets in Niagara-on-the-Lake for this spectacular, spectacular, spectacular 'stack of books' wedding cake! Uh. May. Zing.

We can't finish this post without paying homage to the infamous yellow couch that started it all. It's kinda funny how the inspiration for a whole wedding can come from a singular yellow couch. It's amusing.

Ever wonder how all those lovely details from your favourite weddings get put together?
We worked with the super creative Mike Enns of Enns Visuals to put together a short film giving you a little 'behind the scenes' view on how Ariel + Andrew's Anthropologie 'un-wedding' wedding was created! Mike bascially followed us around, filming our every move, documenting a day in the life of Mimosa Flower Studio.
And to think ... it all started with a yellow couch!

This weekend Reanne + Dan were married in an afternoon outdoor wedding ceremony in the headlands of the beautiful Etherington Estate vineyards, one of the many Cave Spring Cellars vineyards on the Beamville Bench wine appellation of Niagara.
It was the most perfect wedding weekend of the spring so far this year ... a beautiful vineyard setting, sunny and breezy, and, of course, delicious flowers!
We designed in our 'Glow' palette featuring predominately yellow flowers with all the coordinating napkins and other elements (such as the fans, favours, bridesmaid's dresses, etc.) all in gorgeous eggplant purple!
Flowers consisted of garden and standard roses, gerberas, craspedia, orchids, snaps, callas, and gardeny bits such as heuchera leaves, japanese painted fern, mint and scented geranium from our own organic cutting gardens!
The very natural and organic look was completed by some awesome wooden slabs we sliced up from reclaimed local locust tree stumps and the cutest little white ceramic vessels!!
The bride's bouquet in yellow featuring lots of gardeny bits and a special pendant detailing on the stem ...

Reanne + Dan were married outdoors right in the Cave Spring Cellars Vineyard!

The happy couple ... just married!

Guests joined Reanne + Dan over at Inn on the Twenty on Main St. in Jordan for cocktails and evening dinner reception ...

Blessings and best wishes to Reanne + Dan at the start of their marriage journey ... it was a pleasure being a part of your special day!!

The wedding ceremony has evolved significantly over the past decade and what might have been considered 'non-traditional' a few years ago, is now the norm. In terms of location, we do far more wedding ceremonies outdoors (at wineries, in vineyards and intimate gardens) and at venues than we do in church settings ... a total reversal of the 'traditional' ceremony.
We're pretty lucky to live and work here in Niagara where we've got a multitude of ceremony locations to choose from ... including resplendent winery vineyards, lush gardens, glass atriums AND exquisite old stone churches!
We hope you enjoy this look at a few of the wedding ceremonies we were blessed to be a part of last year!

We love wedding ceremonies out in the middle of a winery vineyard ...

If your wedding ceremony or reception requires a Chuppah, Mandap or Canopy, we’ve got you covered … literally!
Our unique custom-made frame base is a flexible, one-of-a-kind design which allows us to build any style onto it … birch logs, bamboo, curly willow, etc. From the base design, we can add flowers, foliages, hanging candles, fabric and lanterns.

Some of our most favourite venues in Niagara (think Pillar and Post, Riverbend Inn and Grand Victorian) have gardens on their property which are just perfect for tying the knot!

Queen's Landing in Niagara on the Lake has an open concept glass-enclosed atrium complete with stunning inlaid hardwood floor and chandelier which is often used for wedding ceremonies ...

There are also quite a number of beautiful old stone historic churches in Niagara on the Lake and Jordan (Roman Catholic, Anglican, Prebyterian) which we love for wedding ceremonies ...

We've even a couple of Greek Orthodox wedding ceremonies last year!

This morning we received a nice little surprise on our Facebook page ... from acclaimed Toronto wedding photographer Mimmo Galati of Mimmo + Naz.
Mimmo captured some gorgeous images at one of our weddings from earlier this year and his work was recently featured on The Wedding Chicks blog! He not only captured the spirit of Kendra + Miles' wedding day, but also the essence of a wedding in Niagara's wine country!
Our thanks again to Mimmo for sharing his fine work and to Crystal at Distinct Occasions for bringing us on board originally!

Another first for us ... in ten years of designing flowers for weddings, we've never done one on a Monday ... until today!!
Stephanie + Danny's Jewish wedding ceremony was supposed to take place under the custom-made birch log chuppah we created for them ... but just 10 minutes before the ceremony, the skies opened up and the rain fell. Ever the optimists, Stephanie + Danny simply moved the ceremony indoors to the Vineyard Retreat at Cave Springs.
Suffice it to say, we were a little sad for our bride and groom ... that they weren't able to be wed in the vineyard under the chuppah ... but love knows no boundaries and come rain or come shine, Stephanie + Danny's love certainly weathered this little hurdle. :)
Cheers guys! We wish the newly weds blessings in their marriage.
Bliss was the colour palette for this smashing brides' bouquet ... how lovely!

Our Chuppah looked absolutely amazing out among the graperows in the vineyards ... lovin' it!!
