It's fun to do wedding shows, but super exhausting! The real thrill of it all is to see the final product 'live' in front of you when it's only been in your head for far too long!!!
For 2013, we'd been dreaming of doing something very different ... we purposely avoided the traditional 'table & chairs' setup.
What we dreamt up was a kind of "The-Hobbit-meets-Twilight-meets-The-Enchanted-Forest" theme ... we only had a 6ft x 10ft space to pull it off in!
Our bride's bouquet contained garden roses, anemones, viburnum berries, ranunculus, white vanda orchids and delicate narcisus blooms. We custom created the bouquet stem wrap from fabric found at The Workroom. (Thanks to Two Birds Bridesmaid for allowing us to 'steal' their model for this image!)

The anchor elements in our display area included a pair of our giant 12ft tall 'twiggy' trees covered in cork bark, moss, ferns and more than 400 stems of white dendrobium orchids!

The featured floral centrepiece was sitting atop our newest custom creation ... a gigantic metal 'stump' (yes, it's metal!!!) repleat with root veins, bark, tree rings and little knots and knobs ... we love it and we so excited to unveil it this weekend!
So, so, SO many potential uses for this stump ... cake stand, a statement piece with florals on it or thow on a plexi round and turn it into a Sweetheart Table or a candy bar. It also splits into two pieces and can be used at a ceremony/altar site with twin florals on it ... so many things to imagine!

Of course 'Emerald Green' (2013 Colour of the Year) had to make an appearance!

In the wee minutes of the show, we threw together an impromptu photo shoot with our new 'stump and an awesome 'woodland' themed wedding cake from Sweetere! Uber-awesome photog Nataschia Wielink (our show neighbour for the weekend!) captured a couple of shots!

"Fortunato in amore, fortunato nella vita. Siamo molto benedetti." (Translates to "fortunate in love, fortunate in life … we are very blessed!")
When the summer heat hits its peak, wise Italians escape the city and head to the country to join their loved ones for the mid-summer festival of Ferragosto on August 15. This was the inspiration for Janine + Roberto's Ferragosto wedding among the vineyards at Good Earth Food and Wine Co. in Niagara’s wine country.
The wedding ceremony was held in a verdant meadow under century old willow and sugar maple trees. Our nieces and nephews helped out in the religious service with a rousing responsorial psalm and handmade alleluia signs. The groom’s papa led the guests in reciting an Italian version of the Our Father – Il Padre Nostro. The ceremony ended with a prosecco toast: viva gli sposi! and we were deluged with handfuls of rice thrown from every direction.
As the sun was setting behind the orchard, guests strolled toward the winery bistro alongside the vineyard. The communal dinner table was waiting under the pergola, softly lit by sparkling crystal chandeliers and votives in a combination of mercury glass and custom hand-sewn vintage fabric sleeves in tones of muted mauve, pale lavender and mulled grape.
The last word goes to Janine + Roberto's five-year old nephew who whispered into the groom's ear: “Zio, can I tell you something?” “Yes, Ryan, what is it?” “This is the best wedding I’ve ever been to. It’s only the first wedding I’ve ever been to, but it’s the best!”
This wedding was perfectly captured by our good friend and uber-talented wedding photographer Nataschia Wielink!

Joyce + Jon were married in an outdoor wedding ceremony on the edge of the vineyards in Niagara-on-the-Lake at Stratus ... which, if you've never been, is a MUST visit when in Niagara's wine country!
From the way it was built to the way it operates every day, Stratus Vineyards is one of the world’s most sustainable wineries and became the first fully LEED-certified winery in the world in 2005. From their four-storey gravity based tank elevator to their 1000 barrel above ground cellar, Stratus is truly a facilty that is a work of art, as much as the wine it produces!!!
We were excited to design the florals and the space in the Press Gallery at Stratus along one 75ft long communal table ... such a magnificent structural, raw and elemental modern space that would be juxtaposed against living elements that are natural, local and organic in look and feel.
Working with a palette that consisted of white, ivory, butter, natural green and muted gold, we designed the florals using roses, white mums, green apples, textural grasses (millet, flowey ditch grasses, roadsidia), dahlias, green/white hydrangeas and fun foliages from our cutting gardens including mint and raspberry foliage.
Each of the three enormously tall 'twiggy' trees was covered in over 2000 orchid blooms and were absolutely dripping with candlelight providing a soft glow to warm up the reception space after dark.

As you know, we're quite fond of design weddings at Vineland Estates Winery ... it's just one of those gorgeous, intimate Niagara winery properties that we simply cannot get enough of!!!
This weekend, Kathryn + Jeremy were married on the north deck at Vineland Estates and broke bread with their guests afterward, dining together over a superb multi-course dinner in The Carriage House prepared by Executive Chef Justin Downes.
We were pretty excited to design the rough-luxe centrepieces for their reception! (see below for a complete description!)
It poured rain all morning, but cleared up beautifully just in time for Kathryn + Jeremy to tie the knot ... we're so happy to have been part of their Big Day!!

To achieve the 'rough-luxe' look for these centrepieces, we started with a piece of flagstone (yes, a rock!) and built up around the trinity of glass and floating candles using cream and natural coloured florals, miniature ferns, moss and cuttings (from our Studio's organic cutting gardens) such Japanese painted fern, herbs (mint and oregano), Lady's Mantle and scented geranium!

Blessings to Kathryn + Jeremy as they begin their marriage journey ... they certainly kicked it off in style!!
