This wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty Canada!
Okay, we've got a bit of a different post for you this time ... all you wedding purists might want to hang on to your seats! ;)
When we first met with our bride, Ariel, she told us that she didn’t want her wedding to *feel* like a wedding. She said she loved the store Anthropologie! We're big Anthropologie fans and we decided to get involved a little bit more with the staging aspect of her wedding ... the fabrics, pillows and the antiques ... all the lovely, lovely details!
It turns out that we've got this old yellow couch (it generally resides on our deck at home) that was sort of one of the main things that started the whole ball rolling ... that’s really where the idea for all the antiques and vintage details started to come into play. We used a lot of custom pillows and hand-sewn birds in the curly willow trees we created ... complete with actual bird's nests that we rescued from the garden this spring. We also designed a flag garland that uses the same fabric as the napkins (which we had commissioned specifically for the wedding). We also had a local potter create some of the mini white vessels for the flowers. And, of course, canning jars were everywhere with flowers and candles in them!
The flowers were mainly all yellow ... we used garden roses, local dahlias, a lot of herbs from the garden, lavender, lavender foliage, camomile and yarrow ... a lot of very local things that were coming up out of the ground at that time of the year.
We were really excited about designing this wedding because it’s really different than what you’d normally see or expect at a wedding. It was the ‘un-wedding’! The bride and groom were very focused on just creating a comfortable atmosphere for their guests and we're all about that!
Most of these photos were captured by the imaginative team at Nataschia Wielink Photography ... we're so excited to share them with you!

A special shout out to Vineyard Sweets in Niagara-on-the-Lake for this spectacular, spectacular, spectacular 'stack of books' wedding cake! Uh. May. Zing.

We can't finish this post without paying homage to the infamous yellow couch that started it all. It's kinda funny how the inspiration for a whole wedding can come from a singular yellow couch. It's amusing.

Ever wonder how all those lovely details from your favourite weddings get put together?
We worked with the super creative Mike Enns of Enns Visuals to put together a short film giving you a little 'behind the scenes' view on how Ariel + Andrew's Anthropologie 'un-wedding' wedding was created! Mike bascially followed us around, filming our every move, documenting a day in the life of Mimosa Flower Studio.
And to think ... it all started with a yellow couch!

Heather + Peter were married in an outdoor wedding ceremony on the back lawn overlooking the Burlington Bay at Burlington Golf and Country Club ... what a beautiful day! Immediately after the ceremony, guests were invited for cocktails and an evening dinner reception.
Heather's colour paletted featured '
Glow' in shades of yellow with an accent of white and silvery pewter.
We designed this wedding using orchids, gloriosa, yellow garden roses and white macrphylla hydrangeas ... with touches of sculptural curly willow for some textural fun!
Here's a picture of Heather's yellow bridal bouquet finished in pewter ribbon with an under-looped collar ...

The co-ordinating bridesmaids bouquet in yellow, white and grey/pewter ...

The Burlington Golf and Country Club received a make-over a few years back ... a great looking venue with spectacular views of the bay and west end of Lake Ontario!

Loved these lucite chiavari chairs ... looked fab with the silvery pewter linens!

Each of the reception centrepieces was one of two different heights of tall glass with a full floral arrangement and an accent of curly willow at the top and as a cascade. A little handful of rough grey gravel in the bottom of the glass vessel tied it together nicely!
Here's the sketch we did for Heather + Peter ...

The sketch (above) becomes the real thing (below) on the big day ...

We had the pleasure of designing the florals for Nicole + Jonathan's wedding this past weekend. Nicole worked for Mimosa for a few summers back in her high school days ... so it was fun twist to now be designing flowers for her big day!!!
Summer has hit Southern Ontario with a vengeance this year and it was a scorcher on Saturday with humidex temperatures climbing to nearly 40C (that's nearly 105F for our American friends!) ... and the sky hasn't produced a drop of rain in weeks and weeks!!! Perfect timing for this refreshing and cool yellow, grey, white and fresh green color palette!!
Nicole's flowers included white macrophylla hydrangea, yellow craspedia, yellow garden roses and grey foliages such as lamb's ear ... plus all kinds of seasonal pickin's from our organic cutting garden ... like mint, delicate cilantro blooms, variegated hosta leaves and the last of the lady's mantle blooms. We added loads of texture and interest by using lemons, funky succulents and poppy pods!

Above: Nicole's bridal bouquet in yellow and fresh green with a lacey grey detailing on the stem.
Below: The bridemaids each carried unique bouquets in the same palette ...

We love the texture in these centerpieces!!

Table centrepieces consisted of a mix of full florals and floral wreaths around a low glass pedestal with floating candles ...

This past weekend, Lynn + Mike celebrated their Niagara winery wedding ceremony and reception at the always wonderful Chateau des Charmes Winery in Niagara on the Lake.
Outdoor weddings in Niagara are always fantastic … but getting married out among the winery vineyards in full view of the Niagara Escarpment is truly a memorable experience unique to Niagara's wine country!
Lynn's colour palette featured predominately yellows and golds with bold teal and peacock blue accents. To accomplish the floral design for Lynn + Mike, we used white hydrangeas, peonies, garden roses, orchids and some lady's mantle plucked right from our organic cutting gardens here at the studio.
This wedding was full of gorgeous eye-candy including the gold chiavari chairs and sheer overlays, the paper lanterns, custom chopstick wedding favours, stunning stationery and the fantabulous cake by Cake Opera Co.
Congrats and best wishes to Lynn + Mike ... we loved being a part of your wedding celebration!!!

This weekend Reanne + Dan were married in an afternoon outdoor wedding ceremony in the headlands of the beautiful Etherington Estate vineyards, one of the many Cave Spring Cellars vineyards on the Beamville Bench wine appellation of Niagara.
It was the most perfect wedding weekend of the spring so far this year ... a beautiful vineyard setting, sunny and breezy, and, of course, delicious flowers!
We designed in our 'Glow' palette featuring predominately yellow flowers with all the coordinating napkins and other elements (such as the fans, favours, bridesmaid's dresses, etc.) all in gorgeous eggplant purple!
Flowers consisted of garden and standard roses, gerberas, craspedia, orchids, snaps, callas, and gardeny bits such as heuchera leaves, japanese painted fern, mint and scented geranium from our own organic cutting gardens!
The very natural and organic look was completed by some awesome wooden slabs we sliced up from reclaimed local locust tree stumps and the cutest little white ceramic vessels!!
The bride's bouquet in yellow featuring lots of gardeny bits and a special pendant detailing on the stem ...

Reanne + Dan were married outdoors right in the Cave Spring Cellars Vineyard!

The happy couple ... just married!

Guests joined Reanne + Dan over at Inn on the Twenty on Main St. in Jordan for cocktails and evening dinner reception ...

Blessings and best wishes to Reanne + Dan at the start of their marriage journey ... it was a pleasure being a part of your special day!!
